Lunch & Learn - Sustainable Procurement

About this Event

Sustainable Procurement Lunch & Learn

As the urgent need for all businesses to address climate change becomes more compelling, it is important to recognise that most organisations deliver 40-80% of what they do through their supply chains. The need to drive sustainability requirement through the supply chain has never been more important. The publication in 2017 of the global standard for sustainable procurement, ISO 20400 in 2017 gave the world much needed guidance.

We are pleased to welcome Shaun McCarthy OBE and Carole Ann Smith to provide their insights in sustainable procurement and to showcase the free resources that are available to help. Shaun McCarthy OBE is a global thought leader on sustainable procurement, he led the UK delegation in developing ISO 20400 and was technical author of the predecessor standard BS 8903. He is currently a Director of Action Sustainability, Chair of the Supply Chain Sustainability School and a non-exec Director of IEMA, where he also chairs their Professional Standards Committee. He was awarded an OBE in Her Majesty the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2013 in recognition of his work as chair of the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012. Carole Ann Smith is Lancashire born and bred and comes with a wealth of local knowledge from her background in adult education in the region. More recently she has been Project Manager building a global community of practice around sustainable procurement and the ISO 20400 standard. Her free online knowledge sharing platform, established in 2012 is supported by an influential global steering group and has been viewed in 155 different countries and contains a wealth of free resources and tools.

Their presentation will cover the ISO 20400 standard, the Supply Chain Sustainability School as an example of best practice and a free resource for the construction sector and the ISO 20400 platform to share and acquire knowledge related to sustainable procurement.

The event will start at 12:00 for lunch and networking, with the session starting from 12:30. Following the session there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and for further networking over refreshments.

The Chamber Low Carbon team will be on hand to discuss the support and funding available through the Low Carbon programme.

This workshop is part of a regular Lunch & Learn series giving Lancashire businesses the knowledge and tools to go green. To keep up-to-date with further workshops subscribe to the Chamber Low Carbon newsletter.
