LEEDS - VENUE TBC

This workshop will explore the poetry of the street on the page and through the lens. We will spend some time in the morning looking at poets and photographers who catch the incidental movement and life of the streets as well as going through the techniques, does and don'ts of street photography. Then we will go out into Leeds over lunch time with notebooks and phones/cameras coming back together in the afternoon to write, edit, photoshop and put together an impromptu edition of PUSH.

You wont need a posh camera to take part, if you have a phone with a decent camera that will do, let us know if you don't and we will sort something.

Andrew McMillan’s debut collection physical was the first poetry collection to win The Guardian First Book Award and was shortlisted the Dylan Thomas Prize, the Costa Poetry Award, The Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year, the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and the Polari First Book Prize. His second collection, playtime, was published by Jonathan Cape in 2018; it was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation for Autumn 2018, a Poetry Book of the Month in both The Observer and The Telegraph and a Poetry Book of the Year in The Sunday Times. His latest collection Pandemonium came out last year. He is asenior lecturer at the Manchester Writing School at MMU.

Lizzie Coombes is a photographer with a long track record of cross art form collaboration and innovative community projects. She is a photo artist, documentary and publicity photographer and a designer. The two key strands to her work are photographing people and spaces. She has developed a style of portrait photography over the years to develop self-esteem and promote positive images of the people she works with and photographs spaces to explore what they say about the people who inhabit them. Her current work is recording her love of light, colour, spaces and people that she sees everyday, finding beauty in ordinariness, finding colour, shapes, angles and spaces... She also tweets and instagrams daily pictures as her alter ego Betty Lawless.
