Come and explore the delights of English poet and cook Eliza Acton. A 19th century Tonbridge resident, Eliza produced one of the country's first cookbooks, (before the better-known Mrs. Beeton), aimed at the domestic reader rather than the professional cook. Event includes talks, cookery demonstrations and food-tastings.
The programme begins at 12.30pm, in The View restaurant at K College, with a talk about Eliza Acton by Vanessa King of Tonbridge Historical Society. This is followed by a cookery demonstration of an Eliza Acton recipe by Chef Lecturer Kevin Hurst, K College.
The event continues with Joe King, U3A’s Accidental Chefs, giving a short talk about Eliza’s food and her recipes. Members of the groups will be bringing in dishes they have made following her recipes.
Finally we end with a lovely tasting session of many of Eliza’s recipes and a complimentary glass of wine kindly provided by K College.
