Event description

Description

Emily Gilbert has worked in both Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo, and currently works in our Field HR team in MSF's London office, she will share with us her experiences followed by 20 minutes of questions via skype over lunch.

About Emily Gilbert:

I’m a Project Coordinator (PC) and have worked on four projects with MSF in Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo. Before that I was working with other humanitarian organisations in the Middle East and Asia. My role is to head up the project. A project is usually a hospital, with peripheral health posts, but can also be mobile clinics, emergency health centres, vaccination campaigns etc. As PC you are responsible for the daily running of the project, managing a team of international and national staff, who are often working alongside Ministry of Health staff. The last project I worked in had 500 staff. As we work in unstable places, a lot of my role is security management. This means liaising with authorities, armed groups, community members and other NGOs to ensure I have a good understanding of the situation and can put in place right mitigation measures against risk for the team. It also involves incident management when security gets bad. Other than that, I have to have an overview of the medical activities in line with the mission strategy, as well as logistics, admin, finance and human resources.
