University of Liverpool Music

Music at the University of Liverpool appointed its first academic tutor in 1919 and accepted its first undergraduate students in 1965. Long-established as a classical music department, in 1988 the department saw the creation of the Institute of Popular Music, becoming the first department in the UK to introduce dedicated, specialist popular music studies and research.

We offer a wide range of musically inspired events throughout the year including concerts, performances and talks. Our aim is to enrich the existing cultural heritage of the Liverpool music scene, by providing a range of both classical and popular music events for staff, students, alumni and the general public.
