Alex Clarke has enjoyed a meteoric rise on the British jazz scene. An alumnus of the National Youth Jazz Collective, Alex was crowned ‘Rising Star’ at the 2019 British Jazz Awards. The following year she was a finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition. Following a period of study in Birmingham, Alex embarked upon a career in music. Alex leads the Alex Clarke Quartet and co-leads the Emily Masser-Alex Clarke Quintet. Touring widely, Alex performs alongside many household names including Greg Abate, Bruce Adams, Gilad Atzmon, Dave Newton, Dean Stockdale and Art Themen.

Regular engagements including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, Simon Spillett Big Band and Down for the Count Swing Orchestra. In 2018 Alex released her debut album, Mirage, in 2022 Only a Year, and in 2025, Out of the Woods. For this Jazz @ the Lit & Phil concert, Alex will be joined by the Dean Stockdale Trio.
