GILES STRONG QUARTET

A finalist in the BBC Young Traditional Musician competition (1992), Giles Strong leads one of the north of England’s most popular jazz ensembles. Initially immersed in blues, folk and ragtime, Strong would later focus upon jazz guitar, performing with many of the region’s finest jazz musicians, including Paul Edis (now based in London), Sue Ferris, Ruth Lambert, Dean Stockdale and the hugely popular gypsy jazz outfits Djangologie and Swing Manouche. This first Lit & Phil lunchtime jazz concert of 2026 will showcase some of Strong’s accomplished compositions alongside a selection from the Great American Songbook.

The Giles Strong Quartet comprises Strong (guitar), Pete Tanton (trumpet/flugelhorn), Ian Paterson (double bass) and John Bradford (drums)
