LUNCHTIME TALK: In Focus: Saint Bride, 1913 by John Duncan
Fri 19 May 2017, 12:45 – 13:15 BST
Duncan's masterpiece is an extraordinarily vivid visualisation of an Irish legend relevant to the Celtic Revival in which he was involved, an allegory of spiritual revelation through prayer, and also a tour de force of egg tempera painting. In his talk art historian Andrew Paterson will trace the artist's aims and manifold stylistic influences as well as analysing the painting's unusual technique. Limited places.
