Description

Tania Cañas is an independent arts professional and researcher based in Melbourne, Australia. She is also the arts director of RISE Refugees, the first organisation established in Australia by refugees for refugees.

In this short free lunchtime event, she will explore what is the role of the cultural sector in generating, supporting multiplicity within the contemporary global context? How do we ensure the cultural sector is representing the diverse social, cultural and political narratives of our time? What might a self-determing model look like in community engaged practice?

A brief talk will be followed by an 'in conversation' with Andrea Montgomery, Artistic Director of Terra Nova Productions. This event is ideally suited to researchers, arts and cultural professionals, community professionals and those in the field of social and intercultural policy

This public event has been coordinated by Ali FitzGibbon and takes place in association with Terra Nova Productions as part of their tenth birthday programme. It is part of an ongoing programme of events and seminars by the research network: Brokering Intercultural Exchange: The Role of Arts and Cultural Management. This two-year project has been supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the Wurth Foundation. The network is based at Queen's University Belfast in partnership with Heilbronn University and co-convened by Victoria Durrer (QUB) and Raphaela Henze (HU).
