Lunchtime Talks: Gender in Advertising

Launching on International Women's Day, The Museum of Brands is proud to present a series of activities focusing on Women in Advertising.
Available from 8 March, the Museum will be showcasing a specially commissioned film 'Changing Trends of Female Representation in TV Commercials' and offering a bespoke guide highlighting objects in the collection and posing questions for discussion.
These 25 minute talks will begin by telling the behind the scene story of the Museum. After establishing the philosophy behind collecting consumer culture, we will discuss how the Museum offers the opportunity to track and analyse the construction of gender roles within packaging and advertising.
Lunchtime talks are free with Museum Admission. Please register your place by booking and then purchase your Museum ticket on arrival.

On Sunday 26 March, the Museum is putting on an afternoon of talks and trails to share the history of the Museum, the story of Mother's Day and the portrayal of motherhood in the media. From playing family games in Edwardian times, gathering around the 1920s radio, or promoting everything from biscuits to soap, this talk complements the Women in Advertising focus at the Museum.
