Lunchtime Talks with SMF: Edinburgh 900 Project
Overview
Celebrating the 900th anniversaries of both St Giles’ Cathedral and The City of Edinburgh, ‘Edinburgh’s First Burghers’ brings together new research by The City of Edinburgh Council’s Archaeology Service (CECAS), together with scientists and experts from The Francis Crick Institute in London (Ancient DNA), The University of Aberdeen (Isotopic Analysis), The Universities of Dundee and Edinburgh (Forensic Art and Facial Imaging) to reimagine the remains of medieval burials first excavated from around St Giles’ Cathedral in 1981.
Dr Maria Maclennan is an award-winning interdisciplinary designer, researcher, educator, and TEDx Speaker. Her research interests concern the role of jewellery in forensic and criminal contexts and the use of design in facilitating collaboration across diverse fields such as forensic science, policing, government, and education.
John Lawson is the City of Edinburgh Council's curator of archaeology. John has worked on many significant archaeological projects, including the St Giles' Cathedral and India Buildings (Victoria Street) excavations, and a major project in Newhaven involving skeletal remains from the medieval period.
