Event description

This year's Lure Anglers Canal Club Predator Pairs event will be held in aid of charity in memory of our club member and friend Greg Canter. Greg's two passions in life were teaching and fishing, so it is apt that the Canter family have chosen Get Hooked on Fishing as the key charity that will benefit from funds raised. The club will also be retaining some of the funds to buy starter kit for our own Get Into Lure Fishing events, which will begin next year. The match is being supported by Todber Manor who will be supplying £180 worth of vouchers to be distributed between the top 3 teams. As we want to raise as much money as possible for charity, there will be no cash prizes this year, However there will be a fantastic new trophy " The Canter Cup".

So, sign up now to the friendliest pairs event in the country and help us celebrate the life of a fellow angler, raise money that will encourage young people to try fishing for the first time and, just maybe, get your hands on the Predator Pairs title and our new trophy.

The competition is open to all lure anglers fishing in teams of two and will be held on the Lure Anglers Canal Club's premier match-fishing stretch of canal at Warwick on Sunday, November 24.

The best 4 zander and best 4 perch from each team will count towards the team's overall total. No other species will count. Pike are few and far between on our waters and are generally caught by accident not by design.

This is an open match. You do not need to be a member of the LACC to enter. LACC members will have priority booking on 15 team tickets until 26 October 2019. Booking for non-members opens on 27 October 2019.

There will be trophies for the teams who come first, second and third as well as special trophies for best perch and best zander. The six anglers from the top three teams will share £180 in Todber Manor tackle shop gift vouchers. There is also a 10% discount at Todber Manor Tackle for all participants spending more than £20 in the run-up to the competition.

All teams are welcome to practise on the LACC canal stretch before the match as long as they buy day tickets as required if they are not LACC members. Day tickets can be purchased online from

NOTE: the stretch between bridge 52 below Hatton and bridge 51 at Warwick is available to members under an agreement with the rights owner, but non-members may be asked to buy an additional day ticket on the bank when practising.

Teams must not fish the entire competition stretch between Friday November 15 and the start of the competition on Sunday, November 24. This will give the main competition area a rest on the lead-up to the big day. We will also be asking our members to rest this area during this period.

Parking is at the end of Welton Road Warwick CV34 5PZ.

Timings according to the organiser’s watch.

8am: free bacon rolls & coffee served.

8.15am-8.45am: competitors' registration and starting order draw

Teams must attend registration in pairs. All teams must present a valid rod licence for both team members at registration. Failure to do this will result in your team being unable to fish in the event. Teams will be issued with a competitors' ID card, catch return form and fish measure (all of which must be returned at the end of the competition). You will also pull your draw number. To avoid a mass scramble at the beginning of the match, we will have a staggered start with teams setting off at 10-second intervals. Please make sure you arrive at registration by 8.30am at the latest.

8.45am-8.55am: competitors' briefing & photo

This will be a quick round-up of the rules to ensure everyone is aware of how the event works. Plus a photo of all competitors.

9am: competition start

Competitors will be let loose at 10 second intervals. No running!

3pm: all competitors back at HQ and hand in catch return. If you hand in your report later than 3.05pm your catch length will be reduced by 10% every 2 minutes later or part thereof.

All teams must hand back their team ID badge, fish measure and completed catch return (all catch returns MUST be totalled up by a member of the team before it is handed in. All winners will be checked).

The teams who hand in the catch returns with the three longest totals of 4 zander and 4 perch, will be asked to submit their camera/camera phone so that their fish sizes can be verified. As will the competitors who have caught the largest fish.

3.30pm ish: prize-giving

Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. There will also be special awards for the biggest fish.
