THE CARNIVAL BAND AND THE ANGLICAN AND METHODIST CHURCHES OF RETFORD

Present - Luther 500 - The Musical Legacy

Led by Andy Watts of The Carnival Band

A Saturday workshop exploring the musical heritage of Martin Luther and the Reformation. Also West Gallery Music and similar styles from Britain, Europe and America, as performed today by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.

For singers and instrumentalists (number of places limited to 50)

At St. Saviour’s Parish Church, Retford

Saturday 14th October 2017 9.30am for 10am start to 5.00pm, then meal break before worship.

The workshop lead into a Luther 500 Anniversary Celebration Service at 7.00pm to which everyone is invited

Andy Watts will provide music including some of the arrangements used by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band in their recordings ‘Sing Lustily and With Good Courage’ and ‘Paradise Found’. He will coach singers and instrumentalists in a selection of hymns and sacred music from the 16th to the 19th century. The music will then be used in the service that evening. Previous workshops have proved a huge hit with participants and congregation alike, as new life is breathed into these wonderful tunes.
