Description

Lyme Disease & Viruses: Their Role in Degenerative and Autoimmune Conditions

An afternoon of informative discussion with four leading experts, highlighting treatments and appropriate interventions for the patient.

14:00 - 14:45 DR. ARMIN SCHWARZBACH

Lyme Disease & Viruses: Their Role in Degenerative and Autoimmune Conditions

Dr. Armin Schwarzbach will examine the mechanisms by which Lyme Borreliosis can be a causative factor in autoimmune conditions. Hashimoto's and rheumatoid arthritis are just two of many where Borrelia have been evidenced. Cross-reactive antibodies to spirochetal and self-antigens are known to lead to degenerative musculoskeletal diseases such as Sjögren's syndrome and other connective tissue disorders. Dr. Schwarzbach will highlight how important it is to consider bacterial and viral infections in autoimmune and degenerative disease of all kinds, and describe relevant diagnostic tests.

About Dr. Armin Schwarzbach

Dr. Armin Schwarzbach, MD, PhD, is founder of Armin Labs, and co-founder and former CEO of the Borreliosis Clinic Augsburg, Germany. He is an Advisory Board member of AONM, a Board Member of the German Borreliosis Society and Member of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS). He also serves as an expert on Lyme Disease for advisory committees in Australia, Ireland, France and Germany. As well as being a clinician for many years, Dr. Schwarzbach has tested over 20,000 patients for Lyme Disease and co-infections.

14:45 - 15:20 DR. LOUIS TEULIERES

Chronic Lyme & Neurological Disorders : Mechanism and Treatments

Dr. Louis Teulieres will introduce borrelia strains and forms, with a focus on parasite and host relationships, including intracellular, persister, cyst and other forms/colonies. He will examine the immunopathology and physio-pathological model of neuroborreliosis (autism and neurodegenerative conditions) and current available treatment and support to the neuro-endocrino/immune pathways.

About Dr. Louis Teulieres

Dr. Teulieres is a medical doctor with degrees in immunology, epidemiology, infectious diseases and bacteriology. He is former Director of Pasteur Institute clinical trials, a Co-Trustee of Phelix bacteriophages research charity, and member of ILADS. In his medical practice he specialises in Autism & Lyme Immunopathology, chronic infectious diseases; hormonal, metabolic & environmental co-factors; chronic inflammatory and neurological disorders.

15:20 - 15:30 DR. JINYU SHAN

Is There a Place for Bacteriophages in Diagnosis and Treatment of Lyme Disease?

Dr. Jinyu Shan will present the Phelix Charity's promising results on borrelia phages.

Phelix Charity Panel: Professor Martha Clokie (Leicester University; Microbiology, Immunology and Bacteriophages), Dr. Jinyu Shan (Leicester University; Bacteriophages researcher), Francois-Xavier Louvet (Phelix co-Trustee & Founding Partner)

About Dr. Jinyu Shan

Dr. Jinyu Shan, PhD, is a research scientist and microbiology lab manager specialising in human pathogens, antibiotic resistance and antibiotic alternatives (bacterial viruses). He was awarded a PhD in molecular microbiology in 2007 for his work on bacteriophage-bacteria interactions using a model system consisting of phage infecting cyanobacteria (blue green algae).

15:30 - 15:45 DISCUSSION AND  Q&As

15:45 - 16:15 BREAK

16:15 - 17:15 DR. HERBERT RIXECKER

Oral and TMJ Therapy as a Key Discipline in Lyme and Co-Infections

Dr. Herbert Rixecker almost had to give up his profession as a maxillofacial surgeon – his hands had grown stiff, he was unable to operate. He found that he was suffering from Lyme Borreliosis as well as Bartonella, Mycoplasma and Chlamydia pneumoniae. Antibiotic therapy was unsuccessful. He was about to give up in desperation when a colleague was able to diagnose the problem: Lyme had colonised a specific site in his jaw and triggered a pernicious form of neuroborreliosis that was affecting the nerves to his hands.

Once his wisdom tooth was extracted he felt immediate relief. Since that day he has regained full use of his hands and is pain-free. He realised that dental issues were often the key to recovery from Lyme Disease, and has dedicated his work to this field. He has an integrative technique that uses a number of specialists to assess a patient’s skeletal structure “from top to toe“, as misalignment can lead to weaknesses in the temporomandibular joint. Nests of infection build that can quickly reach the central nervous system and wreak havoc throughout the body. Dr. Rixecker will present details of his findings, as well as his targeted therapeutic approach.

About Dr. Herbert Rixecker

Dr. med. Dr. med. Dent. Herbert Rixecker is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, and dentist. He is founder of the E.I.C. European Institute for Cephalgia, Facial Pain, and TMJ Diseases.
