Event description

Description

Wales Gene Park, on behalf of Lynch Syndrome UK are coordinating an awareness day for patients and families affected by Lynch Syndrome. The event is being held in Cardiff, Wales but is open to patients and families from across the UK.

Lynch Syndrome UK was founded in early 2014 by a group of people that met on a social media support group. Being frustrated by the lack of information and stories of erratic screening regimes throughout the UK, they came together to change things for people with LS and their families for the better. They achieved registered charity status, in May 2015. As a charity, they aim to offer support and the latest information to all people with LS.

LS UK are passionate in their mission to raise awareness both with the medical profession and the general public about this genetic condition.

This half day meeting will include talks from clinicians, researchers and patients and families affected by Lynch Syndrome.

The programme includes presentations from:

-Dr Ian Frayling; Cardiff & Vale University Health Board and Honorary Medical Advisor to Lynch Syndrome UK.

-Dr Mark Rogers, All Wales Medical Genetics Service; 'The genetics of Lynch Syndrome'

-Dr Neil Ryan, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust; 'The gynaecological manifestations of Lynch Syndrome'.

-Professor Julian Sampson, Institute of Medical Genetics, Cardiff; 'Risks of cancer in Lynch syndrome depend on which gene is involved'

-Dr Gillian Borthwick, providing an update on the 'CaPP3 Research Study'
