Find your poetic and vocal inspiration amongst the beautiful trees of Tortworth Arboretum.

About this Event

“I’m here where I need to be

Choosing root and branch over bricks and mortar

All wrapped up in firelit warmth we’ll see

The stars smiling down on their wayward daughter”

-Reverie, Tia Meraki

The event:

This workshop invites you to explore movement, breath, words and melody inspired by trees and forests, and their rich folklore.

From Yggdrasil the World Tree, to dryads and tree spirits, to portals to healing or other worlds; trees have always permeated our stories and imagination. We will take some time to draw on existing stories and associations of trees as writing prompts for poems or lyrics, find our communal singing voices, take a tree inspired yoga flow to root and ground us, and finish by sharing our words and melodies over a cauldron of vegan hot chocolate around the fire.

Please note this is an outdoor event. Although there is some basic shelter, we will be embracing the elements to an extent so please wrap up warm and bring your wellies (we'll do our bit by making sure the fire is lit and well stoked by the time you arrive). We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule in the event of adverse weather, in which case refunds will be offered. In terms of facilities, we have access to a lovely compost loo but no running water so please bring your own water bottles with you if you can.

Wellbeing:

This event is designed to provide a positive and nurturing space. With this in mind, we have two wellbeing spaces reserved at no charge. If you wish to attend but can't invest the ticket price right now, for whatever reason, we'd still love you to take part. Just drop us a message on kymatayoga@gmail.com, with Lyrical Roots Wellbeing Space in the title. These tickets will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and there is no need to explain your circumstances unless you wish to.

Our hosts:

Bringing you their shared love of woodlands, words, melodies and yoga, this event will be cohosted by Tia and Beth.

Tia Meraki is a yoga teacher, musician and poet with a lifelong love of trees. She has been volunteering at Tortworth Arboretum since its restoration began in 2016. This workshop came about from her desire to share a space that is very special and inspiring to her and help to foster a creative community here.

"And all through winter's longest lonely dusk

Sweet autumn's quiet spark will not forsake

The forming word, the seed yet without husk

For in the spring the sleeping tree to wake.

Then shall I shake off shadows gathered there,

And 'This I am, and I am This' declare."

-Sonnet, Bethany Roberts (Hands of the Heron)
