Exhibition as Event: A lecture on contemporary curatorial strategies based around the artistic programme of Spike Island.
Marie-Anne McQuay joined Spike Island as its first Curator in January 2007. She is responsible for exhibitions, residencies and events and has an advisory role in Spike Associates.
Previously Marie-Anne worked at FACT (Foundation for Art & Creative Technology), Liverpool, developing collaborative context based commissions with artists that include Stephen Willats and Superflex before taking MA Curating at Goldsmiths College. At Spike Island she has worked with numerous artists such as Cezary Bodzianowski, Elizabeth Price, Laure Prouvost and Haroon Mirza.
She also curates a number of public programme strands and was instrumental in setting up Spike Associates, an informal, ongoing, post-graduate programme aiming to generate critical debate and collaboration between artists, writers and curators across regional, national and international networks.
She maintains an independent practice as a writer with a particular interest in the intersection between contemporary art and the narrative strategies of speculative and slipstream fiction. She is also a visiting lecturer on a number of Fine Art and Curating courses including the University of the West of England and Kingston University.
Please print out your ticket and bring it with you to the event.
