Event description

Description

The talk will explore the potential of fashion offering solutions to urgent social and environmental issues, in the face of global challenges and our shifting values. It will showcase the work of designers that are doing fashion differently, to make the world a better place, offering alternative approaches to be considered by the fashion designers of the future.

The presentation will be given by Dr. Kirsten Scott, Programme Leader for MA Fashion Design Womenswear and MA Luxury Accessory Design Management at Istituto Marangoni in London. Her work as a fashion, textile and accessory designer and lecturer is multi-disciplinary and process led. She studied fashion design at London College of Fashion, later completing a PhD in Constructed Textiles at the Royal College of Art. She has designed and sold her own collections in the UK, USA, France and Italy as well as sustained collaborations with leading, international, luxury brands and British designers. She has worked extensively in Uganda on fashion–related development projects, navigating ethical concerns, the legacies of colonialism and the realities of the fashion market.
