About this event

Mobility as a service (MaaS) is a mobility model, which integrates different transport services in a single platform that offers tailored mobility packages. MaaS carries the promise of reducing traffic congestion, improvement of customer convenience, reduction of social inequalities and carbon emissions, whilst optimising the use of public transport infrastructure. MaaS aims to facilitate seamless planning, booking and seamless multimodal journeys, which requires data sharing between different actors and stakeholders of the transport system (e.g., public bodies) to facilitate optimised routing and use of resources. The transition to this complex ecosystem can lead to new cyber security risks to participating actors. For instance, the malicious use of AI algorithms can lead to sophisticated cyberattacks stealing confidential or personal information from vulnerable actors (organisations and people). Some of these risks can be mitigated by encouraging securer behaviours of service providers and consumers.

MACRO is an EPSRC-funded project that brings expertise across Cranfield University and the University of Kent on artificial intelligence and cyber security risk management. MACRO collaborates with other organisations like Connected Places Catapult, University of Bath, Oxfordshire and Kent County Councils, South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership(SEMLEP), Transport for the South East (TfSE), and Enterprise Holdings. The workshop willbe a place for networking with other actors interested in MaaS and discuss emerging cybersecurity and data protection/privacy risks for businesses, consumers and policy makers.

Objectives of the workshop

  1. Help inform the project’s research agenda on making MaaS ecosystems more secure for all participating actors.
  2. Co-define criteria for the selection of low-carbon MaaS scenarios where there are significant cyber security risks for various participating actors.
  3. Identify common cyber security risks in the selected MaaS scenarios, considering relevant business models and cyber security-related behaviours of people and organisations.
  4. Gather requirements, preferences, wishes and intents to collaborate from participants representing different sectors on the research agenda.

This workshop will comprise academic talks, breakout sessions and a panel discussion.
