Macclesfield Forest - Shutlingsloe - Three Shires Head - Lud's Church - The Roaches - Meerbrook (approx 20km)

Welcome to Freshwalks. For a January winter classic adventure we are repeating our August 2019 route, starting in Macclesfield Forest, finishing just short of Leek. The route takes in many of the South West Peak District's finest highlights, including 'the Matterhorn of Cheshire', Shutlingsloe, the waterfalls at Three Shires Head, the chasm at Lud's Church and the glorious views from The Roaches - a near perfect linear walk for the dedicated Freshwalker.

We plan to start the day early by catching the 08:35 train from Manchester Piccadilly to arrive in Macclesfield at 08:55. We then intend to organise transport (taxis or minibus) to take us quickly to the fringes of Macclesfield Forest (the 4 miles to the car park at Trentabank Reservoir) which will be the start of our three counties odyssey. We intend to start the walk between 09:15 and 09:30.

The walk will end at the excellent pub, the Lazy Trout, just outside Leek, around 16:00 and you will need to organise transport to return to the starting point if not joining our minibus. Your minibus ticket option includes a taxi from Macclesfield train station to the car park at Trentabank and a return minibus from the pub back to the station via the car park afterwards. There will be a couple of staggered minibus runs and nobody left behind!
