Welcome to Machete, Masquerade and Memory - a culmination of Caribbean Identity told through Carnival. For the first time ever, we are proud to present a Carnival film entirely in Kwéyòl ( with english subtitles)- 'Kanaval - History of Haiti in 6 Chapters.'
For this event we will delve into self exploration through a Carnival lens, how it shapes our Saint Lucian identity, and looking with a critical lens as to how it has evolved today.
How do we balance the scale of tradition versus the commerical model that has economic benefits to so many?
Following our film screening we will have a live panel discussion with 6 inter generational Carnival industry experts to dissect the future of Saint Lucia Carnival. Complimenting visuals will include never seen before images and videos of Saint Lucia Carnival in the 1960's and 70's, and live Masquerade performance.
For this event we encourage discourse and discussion, where the voices of the ublic have a say on Saint Lucia Carnival's future.
