Description

Overview

Safe machines are no accident. Safe machines are the product of years of small changes to existing and new equipment driven by risk assessment against legal and operational requirements.

The aim of this 1 day FREE interactive workshop is to raise awareness of general machine safety for the user, the manufacturer, and the systems integrator. This workshop covers topics including CE Marking, the Machinery Directive and PUWER 98 using practical examples and discussions of risk assessment and reduction, as defined in BS EN ISO 12100 2010 'Safety of machinery -General principles for design- risk assessment and risk reduction'.

Using your questions and input as a guide, we will explain how the legal requirements translate into practical solutions and reference other supporting EN standards that could be used to presume conformity.

Who would benefit?

  • Operations

  • Maintenance

  • Engineering

  • Technical support

  • Health and Safety professionals

The workshop would hugely beneficial to anyone else who is involved in Risk Assessment and Risk Management, including Leadership and Management who are working with Machine Safety.

This course is invaluable to any person or company committed to a safe and efficient working environment and is a fantastic way to kick-start a positive safety culture in machine safety.

Outcomes

Your Managers, Engineers, Technicians, Team Leaders and Health and Safety Professionals will have made the first steps to ensure that statutory requirements for inspection are being met and that new or modified machines are introduced to the workplace with only acceptable residual risks or that other risks are identified and managed. On completion, attendees will be able to:

1. Understand how CE marking of machines and PUWER relates to you and your company.

2. The knowledge in industry on machine safety tends to be heavily based on inherited wisdoms. Often this can lead to inaccuracies that can cost you time and money now and in the future. We will discuss using practical examples how CE and PUWER 98 apply to industry and you.

3. Understand machine safety risk assessments and risk reduction.

4. Not just a paper exercise. Risk assessment and Risk reduction form the backbone of machine safety and surprisingly the outcomes can differ depending on which regulations we are applying. We will use practical examples to demonstrate this and discuss how to go about control measure selection backed by risk assessment correctly.

5. Identify the key points of machine safety and which engineering activities will trigger the need for risk assessment.

6. Where are the lines in the sand? Learn when you must complete a risk assessment and which engineering activities should be covered by procedures pointing you to complete them.

7. Find the correct EN standards for industry best practice.

8. Determine how EN standards directly relate to the EHSR'S within the Machinery Directive.

9. There are literally hundreds of standards applicable to machine safety. We will identify some of the main safety standards common to most machines and show how they can be used as a part of risk assessment and risk reduction.
