The Charles Rennie Mackintosh building was severely damaged by fire on 23 May 2014, completely destroying the renowned library.
Liz Davidson and David Page will discuss how the school has responded to the effect of the fire in a manner that seeks to harness the creative energy of the institution itself.
They will explain the actual decision of the School to fully restore the building, and include
- the richness of the collaboration with the in-house research team and archives to inform this process
- the close working relationship with the team that has been assembled to deliver not only the physical restoration of the building but also the legacy of craft skills and new product design through a focus on ‘Innovation through Tradition’
- the opportunities that the tragedy of the fire has provided to re-use the building bringing new educational and cultural meaning for Glasgow.
