Event description

Description

This event is aimed at healthcare students studying at hospitals in Cornwall with Plymouth, UWE and Exeter universities. This is a FREE event, but please get a ticket as space is limited. If you’ve requested a ticket but consequently are unable to attend, please email the organiser (gph205@exeter.ac.uk) so that your place can be given to someone else.

The purpose of this event isn’t to overload you with clinical information that you probably already know, but help you to develop the skills necessary to support people affected by cancer and an awareness of the resources available to you and them, including the work of Macmillan.

The sessions offered will include:

  • The work of Macmillan and its involvement at The Cove
  • A tour of The Cove and introduction to the support it offers
  • How The Cove supports people (not just patients!) and the problems they face
  • What support is available to patients?
  • A patient‘s perspective of cancer from a user of The Cove
  • A introduction to palliative and end of life care for patients with cancer
  • How cancer patients can be supported in the community (including at the end of life) and the training available to healthcare staff. Delivered by a Macmillan GP.

Light food and drink refreshments will be provided. Certificates of attendance for addition to your professional portfolios will be sent to you after the event. Please email gph205@exeter.ac.uk in advance if you have any specific dietary requirements.

Please feel free to make a donation to support the amazing work that Macmillan does. There will be donation buckets available on the evening.
