MAD Challenges presents, MAD Clyde.
Challenge your limits on a weighted trek along the Clyde Walkway. The endurance event route will follow the banks of the Clyde, starting at the Falls of Clyde Visitor Centre and ending in the city centre of Glasgow.
Participants must carry a 6kg load in addition to personal kit and can choose to complete one of three distances within a set time:
MAD Master - 35 miles in 12 hours. Our toughest option, starting at 9am at the Falls of Clyde visitors centre.
MAD Mover - 19 miles in 6 hours. Our middle distance walk starts at 3pm at Strathclyde Country Park.
MAD Starter - 8 miles in 3 hours. Short but intense, this route begins at 6pm at Cambuslang and finishs with everyone else outside the Science Centre.
At average walking speed (3mph), these start times leave little room for rest in making the event finish time of 9pm. With added weight and potential navigational errors, you have yourself a MAD Challenge...
For those that like their challenges extra MAD, go for glory and see what record you can set!
We want all MAD Clyde participants to complete their chosen trek, however we reserve the right to ask participants to leave the event if they significantly overshoot the event finish time (9pm) or it becomes clear that they will. Please consider this and your level of fitness before selecting your entry level.
A different kind of sponsorship...
MAD Challenges works with Do Nation - an online platform for collecting sponsorhip in the form of Do Actions.
Do Actions are cost-free commitments of small but significant changes in habit. They're designed to improve your health, be kind on your wallet and reduce our collective impact on the landscape and air that we all share.
All particpants of MAD Clyde are expected to gather Do Nation pledges as part of their entry. A good target to aim for is getting 25 people to pledge one or more actions.
Each start point is accessible by public transport and you will receive more information about how to get to your start point once you have signed up.
You are expected to wear appropriate clothing for an outdoor endurance event in the Scottish springtime. We recommend layers, sturdy but comfortable footwear, waterproofs and a flashlight. You must bring your own food and water required for the duration of the event. Please bring a backpack of 30 litres or larger to carry the extra 6kg of weight - this will be water taken from the River Clyde.
The route followed is a route open to the general public. Large sections of the route are also part of the National Cycle Network. Please be respectful of other pedestrians and cyclists during your challenge.
MAD Challenges does not provide liability insurance for the protection of individuals, groups, organisations, spectators or others who may participate in MAD Clyde. Add participants are expected to adhere to the Scottish Access Code.
