MAD Governance - When to Speak Up
Overview
Think something isn't right? Want to suggest a different approach?
One of the hardest questions for governance volunteers and the clerks/governance professionals who support them is when to speak up if something doesn’t feel right?
It can be hard to judge when a niggling doubt is worth raising or if you should make suggestions based on your own knowledge and experience. Worrying about “rocking the boat” or damaging relationships often leads people to stay silent, sometimes with serious consequences for pupils, staff, or the organisation itself.
This webinar will give you the tools and confidence to act when it matters. You’ll learn how to recognise the early warning signs, ask the right questions, and intervene constructively so your contribution makes a genuine difference to governance and to children’s education.
Learning Outcomes
During the session, Fee and Matthew will discuss how to:
- Identify the kinds of situations when speaking up makes a difference.
- Balance professional scepticism with constructive challenge.
- Ask difficult questions without alienating colleagues.
- Understand the risks of staying silent and the benefits of timely intervention.
- Build confidence through real-world scenarios drawn from governance practice.
