About this event

Are you interested in learning a new skill? Looking for alternative ways to improve your health and wellbeing? This summer, the Newham China Association have teamed up with the Royal Docks’ latest property hotspot – Royal Eden Docks, to bring 10 weeks of Thai Chi to E16.

Classes will be led by YiYi He, a local teacher who has been working across Newham and with the Newham China Association for over a decade. They're free to attend and open to all ages and abilities. No equipment is required – just arrive in comfortable clothing. Spaces are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi, also called Tai Chi Chuan, combines deep breathing and relaxation with flowing movements. Originally developed as a martial art in 13th-century China, Tai Chi is now practised around the world as a health-promoting exercise.

Newham China Association (NCA)

The NCA was set up in 1987, and is a popular local community group which offers a range of social and educational workshops as well as supporting festivals, such as the annual Dragon Boat Race on Royal Victoria Dock.

Royal Eden Docks is a collaboration between Mount Anvil and ExCeL London

The latest phase of Royal Eden Docks in E16 is The Wellspring, a 854-home development that incorporates nature in its architecture. Located around the river bend from Canary Wharf and less than 100 metres from the water’s edge, its green credentials are enhanced by communal gardens, outdoor exercise areas and planted rooftops, one with a spectacular running track and reflexology walkway. There’s also a residents-only swimming pool and spa. Healthy lifestyles are being promoted by green transport options including 1,000 cycle storage spaces, electric car charging points and car club membership. The smart, brick-clad building has been designed by renowned global skyscraper architects Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.

Apartments start from £495,000 and are estimated to complete in 2024. Visit royaledendocks.com.
