You and your guests are invited to the Talk and Private View of our Field Cycles Showcase exhibition on Friday 26th April from 6.00pm-8.00pm. Harry Harrison founder of Field Cycles will talk about the company and his wish to combine the skills of artisan manufacture with creative self expression. Refreshments will be served.
Exhibition runs from Wednesday 17th April - Saturday 27th April
The MADE NORTH Showcase takes a unique look at the world of bespoke frame building by showcasing the work of Harry Harrison and Field Cycles, a company that combines the skills of artisan manufacture with creative self expression. The exhibition features a range of Field Cycles and accessories. All lovingly handmade to very high specifications in Sheffield.
As the centuries-old British steel industry faces huge challenges, in the world of bikes the material and sense of industry is enjoying a quiet revival.
The last decade has seen an explosion in the number of independent bike builders, bringing with them a new style and a new approach in terms of small scale manufacturing and the use of steel.
One such company is Field Cycles. Based in the British steel capital of Sheffield, Harry Harrison set up Field Cycles about three years ago – a logical decision that allowed him to combine his love for cycling with his artistic abilities (he has always had a “reasonably healthy” art career) and steel was the natural material for him to work in.
“Steel is very robust, it’s a known quantity and the list of tubes you can get is endless,” says Harrison. “It’s fantastic to work with, you can be really creative with it and it’s accessible as well."
