MadLab presents: Maximising Your WordPress Website
Overview
WordPress is the publishing platform of choice for more than 500 million websites and blogs – including some of the most high-profile sites in the world. It’s quick to install and simple to get started on, with little configuration and setup.
This practical will support you in taking your self-hosted WordPress website to the next level. Participants will build on the basics to bring interactivity and functionality to their websites, including security, SEO and analytics.
Who is this for?
This workshop is suitable for those who already have their self-hosted WordPress website set up and understand how to create and mange new content, or who have attended our previous Setting up a WordPress Workshop.
Participants will need to bring their own laptop (a tablet or mobile phone is not suitable) and must be confident using their device to navigate the internet, and save, edit, and manage files.

- Reminder of topics covered on previous workshop
- WordPress user levels and responsibilities
- Adding functionality using WordPress Plugins
- Redesigning a website using the WordPress Themes repository
- Integrating external content with a WordPress website
- GDPR and legal requirements including cookies
- SEO and Analytics
- Next steps
You may choose to work on an existing WordPress website, or use a free live demo website (which will last for 30 days).
About your facilitator:
Claire Worthington has been working in digital for over 15 years, specialising in WordPress training for small businesses. She lectures in Web Development at Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Sheffield, and also runs S.P.A.C.E, a charity that supports families of children with ADHD.
