Event description
What do experiences of madness contribute to radical social change?

About this event

This workshop will facilitate new thinking, warm connections and possible plans, by encompassing and embodying madness, by creating a curious space, and by asking questions such as:

  • What do experiences of madness have to contribute to radical social change?
  • Where are the best places to make this happen?
  • What are the most effective and sustainable strategies?

It could be relevant to anyone using, or choosing not to use, mental health services; people interested in peer support; mental health professionals; and mental health activists.

We will watch films, have discussions and do some fun, creative activities from many directions and disciplines to explore everything from Anarchism to Zombies — including what we have to learn from nature, spirituality and superheroes to help us envision a less oppressive, more humane work and world.

ABOUT THE TRAINER:

Mirabai Swingler

Mirabai worked in the NHS in spiritual care for over a decade — before leaving in protest to focus on her passions of:

  • Radically mutual peer support (Spiritual Crisis Network, Hearing Voices Network, Intentional Peer Support, Talk for Health)
  • Progressive mental health services (Open Dialogue)
  • Mad activism (Only Us Campaign)
