About this Event

Two shorter presentations on different subjects:

'True to Life – British Realism in the 1920s and 1930s' - Realism in the twentieth century does not describe a defined art movement; more a group of individual artists intent on depicting honest, unidealised, contemporary subject matter, and often working against the avant garde trends of the day. Join tour guide Debbie to explore the range of styles and ideologies exhibited by these artists, using paintings from the Manchester collection.

'East Meets West - The British Orientalists' - From the 1830s, British artists began to travel independently to the Middle East to capture on canvas the bustling cities, the scenery and the everyday life of this very different world. Join tour guide Isabelle on a fascinating journey to these distant lands and experience the exoticism of the East from the comfort of your armchair!

Manchester Art Gallery has an amazing team of volunteer guides who deliver tours at the gallery usually four times a week. While we can't gather people together physically for tours at this time, the team will be delivering online sessions twice a month using Zoom. you can access zoom through a laptop, tablet or smart phone, just something that has a camera and mic. You don’t need to create an account to access the session.
