We’re excited to welcome Natalia Rachlin, co-founder of Mother Tongue, to the magCulture Shop for our first ‘magCulture Meets’ of 2022.
About this event
Freelance writer and editor Natalia joins us from Houston, US, to share the story of the magazine she launched last year with fellow writer (and mother) Melissa Goldstein. Mother Tongue is notable as a beautifully designed and produced piece of print, but also for its bold reinvention of what a magazine for mothers should be.
As Natalia explained to us in a recent interview on the magCulture Journal, ‘We wanted to look at motherhood through a cultural lens: to connect with mothers who felt frustrated by the fact that their intellectual, professional, social, sexual, analytical lives were sort of overlooked once they were a mom.And tell the stories of women, who yes, are mothers, but also about a million other interesting things.’
Read the whole interview with Natalia and Melissa here.
As well as telling the story how the two developed and launched their magazine, Natalia will be joined by two London-based contributors. Malwina Gudowska and Charlotte Jansen will read from their articles in the magazine to give a sense of the stories the magazine covers.
Doors open at 630 for a 7pm start; we anticipate ending by 830pm.
magCulture Meets
Our magCulture Meets nights have been running since we opened our London shop in late 2015. The evenings are informal and relaxed, a chance to get together with like-minded people, be they magazine fanatics or specialists in the featured subject. As well as a presntation by the guest speaker, there will be a chance to ask questions, have a chat, share a beer.
Ticket holders are welcome to stop for a drink after the talk, and also shop from our selection of 700 magazines.
With thanks to Park Communications for their support of the evening.
