Event description
Join us for a magical nature therapy retreat in the Scottish countryside this Summer.

About this event

In beautiful East Lothian (close to Edinburgh), at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills, lies Blinkbonny Wood: the location for Magic Pear Ecotherapy Weekend 2021.

Ecotherapy — or Nature Therapy — refers to all therapies that aim to improve your wellbeing through connecting with nature, which is what this weekend is all about. Nature teaches us to slow down, and to appreciate what we have; it is so good for our mental health and wellbeing.

A small group of us will come together on the evening of Friday 30th July and we will have the entire woodlands (almost 100 acres) to ourselves until the morning of Monday 2nd August. The group size will be 7-12 people — no more, no less. This weekend is open to everyone. You don’t need to ‘know’ anything about nature or ecotherapy to attend. You just need to have the desire to connect with nature — that’s all!

During the weekend, we will bond with nature by:

  • Exploring and bonding with the woodlands through mindful activities
  • Connecting with nature through art and creativity
  • Discovering magical nature-based myths and folk tales from the East Lothian landscape
  • Sharing our own nature-based memories and experiences with each other
  • Having some solo nature time: just you and Mother Nature
  • Going on silent walks each morning
  • Doing additional ad-hoc activities, dependent upon the weather

Blinkbonny Wood is a privately owned woodlands that is exclusively ours for the entire retreat. It is a little under 100 acres of mixed woodland of various ages (planted for conservation and small scale timber products). The group will experience the freedom of roaming in this beautiful woodland in a safe environment. The pitches within the woodland have fire-pits, a compost toilet, a pond with resident ducks (providing it isn’t too hot and has dried out — not always likely in Scotland), and views of the Lothians and the local hills.

Facilities:

The group will have exclusive use of Blinkbonny Wood. There is no on-site water but we will provide plenty of drinking water in containers. There is a composting toilet and we provide washing bowls/buckets and washing water (in limited supply, so please be prepared for no showering or thorough washing)! There is no access to electricity; this is a gift.

Delicious cooked (vegan) food is provided for the entire weekend. If you need a pickup from the local train station (Drem, a few stops away from Edinburgh Waverley), we will arrange it. There is parking for cars on-site. We do encourage train travel where possible (but we won’t make you feel guilty if driving is your only option)! If you would like a tent provided and set up for you, we can arrange that too. Simply select the options for pickups/tents when you book on this Eventbrite form.

Activities are scheduled all day on Saturday and Sunday. We ask people to arrive on Friday evening for a shared meal, a relaxed walk together and an opportunity to get to know each other before structured activities begin on Saturday morning. Activities are relaxed and slow all weekend — no stress. There will also be plenty of time for you to have some quiet time alone in nature if that is what you need — as well as exploring our experiences together as a group.

Modern life has way too many distractions, and our mental health is suffering because of it. Spending time close to the trees, water and hills with other nature-loving humans is what Magic Pear is all about. We hope that when you leave Magic Pear 2021, you take a renewed nature-connection into your everyday life with you. It is not a party (it is more than that), but it is hoped that there will be much joy to be shared!

Some Booking/Practical/Payment Information — Please read before booking.

* REGISTRATION CLOSES AT 10PM ON THURSDAY 16TH JULY *

At the moment, due to COVID restrictions and quarantine rules, this weekend is sadly only open to people in the British Isles/UK and Ireland. Everything that you need to bring with you will be explained once you sign up, but this essentially amounts to warm clothes, sleeping bags/blankets, a tent (unless you want us to provide one for you), camping mat, a notebook and personal essentials such as medications. If you book a pickup from the train station and/or you want a tent to be provided, we will get in contact with you after you have booked that option to arrange the details. Just select the appropriate option when booking. This retreat is open to all people of all genders, ages, and backgrounds, and it aims to be a safe and inclusive space for all. In the event of rainy or challenging weather, the trip will go ahead regardless. Only in extreme, potentially dangerous weather conditions will we cancel, offering you a credit towards a future event. We are unable to offer general refunds after booking, HOWEVER we will offer 100% refunds (minus any Eventbrite booking fees) if there is a lockdown due to COVID and we have to cancel the retreat. We are here to talk things through before booking so that you are sure this is the right weekend for you! There will be no alcohol or drugs permitted on site — please respect this at all times.

If you require any information at all before booking, or even if you would like a quick Zoom chat to ask more about the weekend, please email stephen@naturetherapyonline.net

If you would like to join Stephen online for a free Nature Therapy session in May, join him here - https://www.facebook.com/events/210925663713042

We hope to welcome you on our journey through nature, art and myth at Magic Pear Scotland 2021. Hugs from the Lothians!
