The Magical Lantern Festival makes its debut in Yorkshire at Roundhay Park in Leeds following the hugely successful UK launch in London last year. Book your tickets to the festival and Santa's Grotto here. You can visit the grotto separately to the festival and do not need a festival ticket to purchase a Grotto ticket.

The Magical Lantern Festival is a spectacular fusion of art, heritage and culture. A stunning outdoor Xmas themed event, a festival of light and illumination. Visitors will follow a trail around Roundhay Park and explore amazing giant lanterns, which represent Xmas, traditional Chinese culture and the amazing 2000-year heritage of Lantern Festivals.

Visitors will enter the festival through a giant 16 metre wide lantern entrance feature before they embark on a fascinating journey through the park uncovering stunning lanterns in all shapes, colours and sizes from santa and reindeers to flowers and animals.

We promise visitors a truly amazing experience, a visual feast of light and illumination, hidden amongst the grandeur of Europe’s largest city park, which lends itself perfectly to the layout of the lanterns with its combination of lakes, woodland, gardens and pathways.

Visitors will see some of the most artistic and beautifully constructed lantern installations outside of China. The lanterns represent and celebrate Xmas and Chinese culture and heritage.

The entertainment area adds another dimension to the experience with an international range of food and beverage vendors, Santa’s Grotto, festival merchandise.

2. Where is the Festival?

Roundhay Park, Leeds. The correct entrance to the festival is Canal Gardens.

3. How Do I get to the Festival?

Travel by Car

Roundhay Park is situated 3 miles north of Leeds City Centre off the A58 Wetherby Road at Oakwood. Alternatively, we are accessible from the A6120 Leeds Ring Road. Look out for the brown tourist signs for Tropical World.

Travel By Bus

From Leeds city centre follow signs for A58 Wetherby and brown Tropical World signs. Buses from Leeds city centre to Tropical World depart from Vicar Lane (opposite Corn Exchange) or New Briggate (outside Alders). Bus 12 or 2.

No doubt the giant 16-metre wide Xmas scene with huge Xmas tree, Santa and snowmen lanterns will be one of the top attractions.

5. Will There be Food and Drink Available?

Keep warm and refreshed with our delicious range of food and heart-warming tipples. There are plenty of food options for the whole family, a range of seasonal dishes and seating in the Market Area. You’ll also find a variety of quality food and beverages located at the main entrance and along the festival route.

6. What Should I wear?

Dress for an evening outdoors in the winter. Visitors are advised to wear warm clothing and suitable footwear. There are no cloakroom facilities at the venue, so visitors will not be able to store bags or large items. Scooters, skates and bicycles are not permitted on site.

7. Is there Disabled Access?

The route is accessible to wheelchair users and to pushchairs. Assistance dogs will be welcomed, but no other dogs are permitted on site.

Open Thursday to Sunday each week

Open everyday during Xmas half term holidays (Closed on Xmas eve and Xmas day)

Ticketed entry every 15 minutes from 5.00pm to 9.00pm

9. Will I be able to get a Refund if the Event is Cancelled?

Magical Lantern Festival and Eventbrite cannot offer to exchange tickets once purchased, so please make sure that you have chosen the right date and time slot when you book. We are not able to offer refunds or duplicates on lost or unwanted tickets.

Magical Lantern Festival and Eventbrite, cannot offer any exchanges or refunds unless the event is cancelled. Inevitably bad weather can affect any outdoor event. If the venue considers it unsafe to proceed, and we have to cancel the event, visitors will be offered an alternative date/time.

No refunds will be offered simply for bad weather as the festival will still be open. Any decision to cancel the event will be taken at 3pm on the day of an event.

See Christmas Illuminated at Roundhay Park Leeds

The Magical Lantern Festival enters its second year in Yorkshire following a hugely successful festival last year at Roundhay Park. Due to the exceptional demand for tickets, to accommodate more visitors, this year we will be open five days a week from Wednesday to Sunday each week and open every day during the Xmas holidays apart from Xmas Eve and Xmas Day. 

This year's Christmas themed Lantern Festival will illuminate Roundhay Park turning it into a spectacular fusion of dual culture, vibrant colours and artistic sculptures! Prepare to enter a magical experience and discover life-sized and large-than-life lanterns in all shapes and forms, from 'Polar Bears on Ice' to a magnificent giant 'Chinese Temple of Heaven' lantern recreation.  

We promise visitors a truly amazing experience, a visual feast of light and illumination, hidden amongst the grandeur of Europe's largest city park, which lends itself perfectly to the layout of the lanterns with its combination of lakes, woodland, gardens and pathways.

The festival will not only wow visitors with its beautiful hand-sculpted lanterns, the entertainment area adds another dimension to this wonderful night out with a food and drink area, bar, Santa's Grotto, handful of fairground rides for children and merhandise marquee where visitors can buy a souvenir of their experience to take home. The festival is open from 5pm to 10pm with last entry at 9pm.

There really is no better family-friendly festival to visit this Christmas.
