Event description

Did you know Maidstone was the name of a crater on Mars?

A new festival in the county town pays homage to the fact by bringing together art, space and science.

From June 24 to July 16, the town will be awash with activities inspiring public engagement, as internationally-acclaimed artists and scientists from across the world showcase their knowledge and skills.

Inspired by the red planet, the Maidstone International Arts Festival will bring together top-ranking artists and musicians, including performers and staff from the Royal Ballet and Royal Opera House, with local choral and dance groups, culminating in a spectacular Gala Concert before the town’s Mayor, Cllr Malcolm Greer.

Organised jointly by MAAP and cross-cultural festival organisers Baltic Art Form, the Festival opens with an Art Exhibition in Maidstone’s Museum and Mall Shopping Centre on June 24, culminating in performance days on July 15 and 16, staged in Brenchley Gardens, St Faith’s Church, the Museum and Mote Park Leisure Centre.

The programme consists of up to 18 workshops, more than 60 live performers and three lectures. Information on the full programme can be found at the Maidstone International Arts Festival website
