We are offering a whole-day training session for professionals to learn Makaton. This is an accredited course that awards you Makaton Level 1.

This training is delivered by Michele Williams who is a registered Makaton Tutor.

Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression.

Location: Specialist Education Services, Whitefield School, Macdonald Road, Walthamstow, E17 4AZ (there is no parking available on-site and the roads surrounding us are permit parking, parking is available on roads around 15 minutes walk away toward Highams Park, please be very careful to check signage)

Our team of specialists and experienced teachers includes Qualified Teachers of the Vision Impaired (QTVIs), Qualified Teachers of the Deaf (QToDs), and SEND advisory teachers who work with Waltham Forest mainstream schools colleagues to meet the needs of pupils with SEND and one of the most effective ways we can do this is through training. You all are welcome to join our informative and interesting training sessions.

Our specialist areas of training are:

• Autism

• Learning and Cognitive disabilities, including SpLD (Dyslexia)

Whilst the Centre specialises in SEND provision, its courses are highly relevant to those in mainstream education. Without exception, its courses are informative, engaging, and of high quality enabling participants to improve their skills and knowledge as well as furthering their careers. The Centre draws on the expertise and experience of teams working at Flourish Specialist Education Services in order to create programmes that are highly relevant to today’s school environment.
