About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

The fishbone structured book opens and closes with a satisfying snap and looks great displayed open or closed.

In this workshop you'll make an initial maquette version of the structure, and then a second book with your own content. Your tutor Mike will give guidance on possible narrative content and help participants with the development of their own story.

Use of tools and all materials will be provided.
No previous experience necessary. Over 16s only.
Refreshments will be available.

This workshop is part of the Telling Book Arts Stories Exhibition by the Marches Book Arts Group, during the Marches Makers Festival weekend in Kington, Herefordshire.

Your tutor is Mike Clements, a fine art printmaker and book artist working in the Marches. His ideas come from close observation of the world around him, often focusing on quirky aspects of life. He is a member of the Marches Book Arts Group.

If attending this workshop you will see some of Mike's artist's books on display at the Telling Book Arts Stories exhibition and he is also exhibiting original prints in the festival exhibition in St Mary's Church.
Find out more about Mike's practice here.

We are an open group of book artists based in the English-Welsh border region of the United Kingdom, an area known as the Marches, and have a wider membership online via Zoom. Formed in 2009, we comprise makers at every level, from those just discovering the joys of book arts to professional artists renowned for their artist's books. We meet to share skills and techniques across a variety of disciplines including making handmade books, painting, paper sculpture, calligraphy, photography and printmaking. We exhibit together at national book arts shows and local events.
