Beginners silversmithing class

Come along and make a sterling silver pendant necklace with a bezel set gemstone or sea glass. During the class, you will learn how to pierce, form, polish and solder metal. You can choose from our available genuine gemstones or sea glass collection on the day. If you'd like, bring along some of your own pieces and we can see if they're suitable. We will have our collection available which has either been selected for its shape or altered to suit the setting type. We finish up the class by setting your stone in your handmade setting and polishing it to a high shine.

All materials, and refreshments are included!

This workshop has limited spaces meaning each person will have 1:1 time with the tutor and particular attention can be taken when using the blowtorch- this is great for those of you who might find heat work a little scary!

A bit about us:

Carley trained in Applied Art at CCAD in Hartlepool - Now the Northern School of Art. She specialised in Ceramics, Silversmithing and Textiles with a main focus in Ceramic art. After graduating in 2013 she went on to study a PGCE (14+) at the University of Bolton while living and working in Manchester. She gained most of her teaching experience working in secondary education and also through teaching classes in the field of ceramics at Muddy Fingers Pottery in Jarrow. In 2018 she began building her brand The Little Silver Kiln where her main intention was to make, sell and teach jewellery. The Little Silver Kiln opened its new studio in 2021 at The BIS on Whitby Street.

Hosted in our new unit at The BIS on Whitby Street, Hartlepool. Our studio is a 2-minute walk from the train station, if you are driving, there is parking right next to the studio which is free after 6 pm. Our bright and warm studio space is on the first floor and has access via stairs, but there is bathroom access on the same floor.

- You can miss us! The big beautiful building is opposite the car wash half way down the street.

- Parking is available on street or next to the building in Dover Street car park (access between the Hillcarter and the Fishmongers)

- Parking is free after 6pm and on Sundays, please check the street signage for any changes.

Please note we aren't open to the public, you will need a ticket to our event or an appointment to speak with us in person. The reception is closed on weekends and evenings so we will come down 10 minutes before the event to open the doors for ticket holders - please ring the buzzer.

What you need to know about the class:

No experience is needed.

Please bring glasses if you need them for sight.

Good dexterity is needed for these classes

The studio is currently only accessible by stairs.

Please feel free to bring lunch for your break, we have a microwave and a kettle for your use.

Set materials are provided with additional materials available to purchase if needed

14+ due to the soldering in this class - please note 14-17year olds must be accompanied by a paying and participating adult.

The Little Silver Kiln is an eco-friendly jewellery brand, with sustainability at its core from the very beginning. Founded in 2019 by Applied Artist Carley with the mission to create an ethical jewellery brand.

We are a female-led studio in Hartlepool using traditional silversmithing techniques and eco conscious methods. Our workshops are designed with your individuality in mind, we make it possible for you to make your own unique piece of jewellery using the techniques we teach you can pick the size, shape and textures which suit your style most.

We host creative classes from our new studio on Whitby Street in Hartlepool which is less than a two minute walk from the train station. We are located on the first floor with lift access and accessible bathrooms. If you are travelling by car here is plenty of space to park next to our studio though it is pay and display.
