In January, during 'Other Worlds: New work from the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers' exhibition, visitors were invited to make their mark in a large woodblock, creating a whole image full of small illustrations, evocative of Bideford and the surrounding area. The woodblock was initiated by master printer Merlyn Chesterman, and now visitors have a chance to complete the next step in a print’s journey: inking up a block and creating a print.
The woodblock design has been reduced in size using a method called flexography, which means that everyone has a chance of owning their own print. Merlyn Chesterman will be on hand on 29 October between 2pm and 4pm to guide attendees through the inking of the plate and creating the print on beautiful Somerset paper. The result will be a professional print that you can take away with you and hang on your wall.
There are two time slots available: 2pm-3pm and 3pm-4pm, with 10 tickets available for each slot.
Merlyn Chesterman, a painter and printmaker, graduated in Fine Art from Bath Academy of Art, Corsham. She trained in printmaking at West Dean College in Chichester, where she now teaches short courses. Merlyn works from her studio in Hartland, Devon, where she runs printmaking courses and teaches children excluded from school.
