Date and time
Description
#BEHEARD
You could help to shape the future of personal tutoring by sharing your opinions and taking part in the Make a Zine, Make a Difference campaign.
Come to an informal workshop to find out more!
Make A Zine, Make A Difference
This campaign is part of the Raising Awareness, Raising Aspiration (RARA) project currently being piloted at the University of Sheffield (www.raratutor.ac.uk). Our aim is to develop an improved approach to personal tutoring, with a view to narrowing the attainment gap* among students from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups and lower-socio economic backgrounds - compared with their peers.
One aim of the RARA project is to develop an ‘alternative guide to personal tutoring’, which is created for students, by students. This workshop aims to inform the content of the alternative guides by facilitating discussions about personal tutoring and attainment gaps.
We want to improve personal tutoring so that all students get the support they need, but we need your help to make this happen!
The Competition
We want you to make a zine (small, self-published, D.I.Y magazine) or poster about your experiences of personal tutoring. The zine you make can be as colourful and creative (or not) as you like. The winning zine will be decided by a panel of judges and fellow students!
For more information on the competition, and to enter, please visit: http://www.raratutor.ac.uk/zine-competition/
What do you get?
Not only could you win a £50 shopping voucher, you also have the opportunity to showcase your creation and be published across the whole university.
Why bother?
Whether your personal tutor is a friend or a stranger, your experiences matter. Your contribution could help to shape the future of personal tutoring, not only at Sheffield but across the whole country. Did we already mention the prize?
At the workshop, you will be given an opportunity to start making your own zine and have an open discussion about personal tutoring and your experiences. You can share as much or as little as you like.
Creative resources will be provided along with snacks and refreshments!
Be a part of something, be heard.
*The attainment gap is an unexplained gap in attainment that occurs among certain groups of students in Higher Education. It has no relationship to prior grades and occurs once students are at university. We want to stop this from happening.
Note: Data collected during the workshop (e.g. written notes and comment cards) may be used to inform the wider research project, if you provide consent for your data to contribute to the project.
If you choose to attend this workshop you will be provided with a consent form and asked to indicate which data, if any, you consent to be included in the research project. If you choose not to contribute to the research, you will still be able to attend the workshop. By registering for the event you are not consenting to join the RARA research project.
