Description

Escape for a day in the luxury surroundings of Malmaison Hotel, Reading and create your own beautifully tailored A line skirt in an all-day workshop led by independent designer Marilla Walker.

This exclusive event for up to a maximum of 6 participants also includes lunch created by the team at Malmaison, refreshments during the class and to top it all off a celebratory glass of wine/bubbles to celebrate your successful day of sewing.

Marilla Walker is a local independent designer who has made countless items for herself over the years from simple skirts to dungarees and everything in between including underwear and constructing her own shoes from scratch. Her dynamic approach to creating means that she knows every potential disaster that can occur and will be on hand to make sure your making goes to plan. With a passion for all things sewing, textiles and anything that involves making stuff, Marillagraduated from the University of the West of England in 2007 where she studied Fashion and Textile Design and more recently has been developing her own sewing pattern brand. Marillais particularly drawn to Japanese and Scandinavian design and loves engineering patterns with modern lines and a clean finish.

In this workshop you will learn how to make a simple A-line skirt, insert a lapped zip, construct pockets and finish seams. You will use toiles and paper patterns and learn how to adjust skirt to your exact size. You will have an additional paper pattern and instructions to take away with you from the class. The pattern will cater for size 8 up to 26.

Suitable for adults who have basic sewing and sewing machine knowledge, there will be plenty of one to one instruction in this class and Marilla will be supported by jelly artist and designer Kate Powell.

Malmaison Reading is the Worlds reputedly oldest surviving railway hotel.
