The achievement gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged pupils begins long before they start primary school and widens to the point that children from low-income backgrounds are significantly less likely to graduate from a top university. This is not good enough.

The Make Education Fair campaign aims to close the attainment gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged pupils in the North East at KS2 SATS and KS4 GCSE attainment 8 results by 2027.

We are hosting an Unconference Day* at St. James’ Park on Saturday 6th May, 10:30-15:30. Join us to discuss where and how we should be closing the gap and help us make noise!

We're delighted to be joined by Beccy Earnshaw as our key note speaker. Beccy is Director at 21 Trust and former founding Director of Schools NorthEast (a network of 1200 schools in the North East), Beccy spent seven years facilitating educational collaboration and championing the views of the region's school leaders. Before she entered the education sector, Beccy worked for The Children's Commissioner for England, The Electoral Commission, The Hansard Society and BBC Parliament. As a passionate Geordie, she is enjoying her return to exile in the Big Smoke but misses stottie cakes, bus drivers who call you pet and her mam.

*An Unconference goes against the mould of a typical conference, with more flexibility and open space to discuss topics of interest. There will also be an opportunity to hear from an inspiring key note speaker and to network with 150 colleagues from the North East education sector.
