Event description

Description

This workshop will give the attendees the opportunity to make visuals (daily schedules, first-then boards, token boards, visual step-by-step task analyses, self-management checklists) for their child, which can then be utilised for home or school, for example. A child with autism can have deficits in their receptive understanding/listener responding skills, therefore visuals can be an important and effective way of aiding that child’s understanding of their day. This workshop will also provide attendees with ideas in how to use visuals to teach new skills, for example how to use a visual task analysis to teach self-help skills (dressing, hygiene routine, toilet training).

The Empower project is a Big Lottery funded initiative through the Reaching Out Supporting Families Programme which support Families across Mid Ulster and Antrim & Newtownabbey Council areas. The focus of the project is to support children under 12 with Autism, Dyslexia and Dyspraxia, their parents and the wider family circle to enhance confidence and learn together to develop skills to support their children.
