Event description

Description

Are robots going to take our jobs? Are decisions about our health, security and finances made by computer programmes inexplicable and biased? Has our demand for energy driven the Earth’s climate to the edge of catastrophe?

Join Lord Browne, in conversation with Vivienne Parry, as he draws on his experience as both an engineer and a business leader, as well as the ideas shared in his new book, 'Make, think, imagine: engineering the future of civilisation', as he makes a clear and compelling case for progress.

He will explain why engineering is and always has been the backbone of civilisation, outlining its growing capabilities and how it can deliver a brighter future.

Copies of Lord Browne's book,'Make, Think, Imagine: Engineering the Future of Civilisation' will be available for purchase and signing after the talk.

Discounted tickets are available to Members of the Ri. Find out more about how to join our community.

The doors will open at approximately 6.30pm, with a prompt start at 7.00pm. There will be time for questions after the talk.

Latecomers will be admitted to the gallery.

By booking to attend events at the Royal Institution, you confirm that you have read and agree to the Ri's event terms and conditions.
