About this event

Learn to make handbuilt ceramic wall hangings - think shrines, shelves, sconces, alters...

The clay body, the glaze material and the colouring pigments will be made up of found materials which I have foraged:

Wild clay from Walthamstow and Seven Sisters

Rust (iron oxide) gathered from along the towpath

Wood ash from burnt logs of Hackney marshes

We will also create texture using an array of gleaned materials

These handmade ceremonious objects will pay respect to forgotten surroundings; earth from beneath our feet, symptoms of decay and neglect, waste products that would be discarded.

The session will be led by myself, Esme, a potter and teacher. The class will be suitable for all skill levels. You will learn handbuilding techniques such as slab and coil techniques, as well basic surface decoration techniques.

Note: Firing and keeping your pieces is optional, and will come at an additional cost of £10. The fired pieces will be collected from my studio in Wood Green.
