Grafting means you can be sure of the variety of fruit and the size of the tree. In this workshop you will learn how grafting works and have a go at creating your own fruit trees.

All participants will get to take away 2 apple trees they have grafted, with the option of grafting more trees for £5 each.

The workshop will cover:

• Grafting theory
• How to collect and store scion materials
• Whip and tongue grafting of apple trees
• Aftercare of the grafted trees

Attendees will learn how to practice safe knife control and cut both components of a whip and tongue graft. We will also demonstrate the saddle graft and cleft graft techniques.

All equipment and materials will be provided, although you are welcome to bring along some "scion" material - fresh cuttings of last year’s growth from a tree that you would like to propagate.

In order to make the workshop more accessible to those on a low income, we have three ticket options based on a sliding scale. Please pay what feels right to you. All tickets give the same level of access to the workshop.

Kirkgate Centre is situated in the centre of Shipley, directly opposite Shipley Town Hall. It is a 6 minute walk from Shipley train station.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your ticket, we can issue a full refund up to 2 days before the event. A 50% refund will be issued to ticket holders that cancel less than 2 days before the event, or you can transfer your ticket to another one of our events.
