Event description
Join us to make your very own DIY Christmas wreath to adorn your front door!

About this Event

Join us virtually for a workshop on wreath making to adorn your front door!

We will be using a mixture of locally sourced materials that you can easily find on any London green common land, DIY shop or florists. This interactive workshop is suitable for all levels including children and families. Participants will learn how to attach items using wire and alternative techniques.

Expect colour, fun and lots of festive excitement as you make your own unique designs.

Materials needed:

  • Scissors or secateurs
  • Wire cutters
  • Pliers
  • Thin wire (any colour, max 2mm thick) or green string, although wire is a bit more durable.
  • Ribbon (any colour size or shape)
  • Flat wire floristry wreath ring or metal coat hanger or any wreath making bases. If you have green willow you can create a base with that or anything that you can make into a circular base will work.

Plants:

Any evergreen plants you can find in your garden, on common land, or in your local florists. Ideal plants which are also easy to find in green areas in London include:

  • Ivy (any type)
  • Small cuttings from trees or bushes like Pine, Bay leaf, Holly, Cypress, Photinia trees, Cotoneaster, Eucalyptus
  • Pinecones
  • Any other interesting things you find on your hunt

You can also get:

  • Cinnamon sticks, dried apple or orange slices (or make them yourself) chestnuts, seeds, big leaves, berries, dried flowers...
  • Bells, Christmas balls, lego men, tinsel, any artificial delights that invoke Christmas joy!

Lets get into the festive spirit together!

There is a suggested donation for this workshop. Donations are greatly appreciated as they help us to continue our work with our community gardens and support our most vulnerable members during coronavirus.

Looking forward to seeing you on the day! (virtually of course)

Please also note:

When harvesting, look for greenery that has fallen on the ground. If you are on common ground or in your own garden, do not take more than a couple of cuttings per plant. Always make sure you leave the vast majority of the plant intact.
