The Workshop

Treat your pet to their very own hand made bowls and have fun making them too! In this workshop you will make your own ceramic pet bowls from scratch and decorate them as you choose. Using stoneware clay, you will learn to hand build the pots using slabs of clay and can draw your decoration or choose from a selection of stamps to create your own unique patterns and designs.

You'll have the opportunity to make either two small or one medium or large pet bowl, or one of each size. The sizes can be adapted to suit most pets, from rabbits to medium/large dogs and most inbetween. You will also be able to pick the glaze your pet would like their bowls finished in, from a selection on the day. All the glazes offered are food and pet safe.

Tuition will be provided by two experienced ceramicists, Amy and Sue, and with small numbers on our workshops, you can have as much or as little guidance as you like! All materials and firing are included as well as use of equipment on the day.

After the workshop your creation will be carefully transported back to the studio where it will be fired and glazed. The finished pieces will be wrapped in 100% biodegradable packaging and ready for collection from the workshop venue around 4 weeks later.

The workshop is relaxed, informal and suitable for complete beginners or those who've worked with clay before. Whether you've got bags of ideas and inspiration or not, don't worry, we'll provide any help you need to make something brilliant!

About Us

Amy is a studio potter based near Newcastle upon Tyne. She graduated from the University of Sunderland with a first-class honours degree in Glass and Ceramics before going on to establish her own independent ceramics studio.

She works with stoneware and porcelain to create wheel-thrown pieces which are functional as well as beautiful. She values craftsmanship, sustainability and heritage and loves to help others discover the joy of clay through classes and workshops.

The Venue

Newcastle Cathedral encapsulates the rich narrative of the city within its ancient stones and timeless monuments, chronicling over 900 years of Newcastle's evolution. The iconic Lantern Tower, originally a navigation point for ships sailing the River Tyne, stands as a beacon of light in the city.

The workshop is held either in an upstairs room overlooking the refectory and its ornate decoration or in the nave, surrounded by the stunning stained glass, historic ledger stones and ancient monuments. Both spaces are accessible.

Newcastle Cathedral is accessible by rail, bus, Metro and by car. There are several Metro stations nearby, the closest of which are Monument and Central, both less than 10-minute walk away. The nearest mainline railway station is Newcastle Central Train Station. The Haymarket bus station and Eldon Square bus station are both a 15-minute walk from the Cathedral, serving buses to various North-East locations. The nearest major public car park can be found on Dean Street.
