Event description

Description

Are you looking for a really original Christmas gift for the special people in your life and want to combine this with doing something fun and different? Aimed at complete jewellery beginners or those with a little silversmithing experience, this is an introduction to how to make your very own piece of jewellery using silver clay.

Silver clay is a compound made up of particles of fine silver, non-toxic organic binder and water. Once fired the binder burns off to leave a beautiful piece of fine silver which is 99.9% pure and of hallmark quality.

On the day I’ll guide you through some of the key techniques required to produce a beautiful pendant to take home at the end.

You’ll learn:
• how to prepare and handle the clay
• how to add texture, shape and form
• basic construction
• refining, drying and firing
• adding patina
• finishing and polishing
• basic health and safety for silversmithing

The cost includes the cost of the pure silver clay you use (7g) and which is sufficient to make a small pendant and a pair of earrings or 3-4 small charms. Additional silver clay, sterling silver chains and earring fittings will all be available to buy.
