Led by one of our wonderful volunteers Caroline, learn the essentials of this traditional soap-making technique at our informal, hands-on, workshop. The soap will take around 6 weeks to cure, so this is perfect timing for making some Christmas gifts. We will also be making origami gift boxes - whether you will gift some of your soap or not, this is a really handy skill to learn!
We'll demonstrate the whole soap-making process and talk you through the chemistry, the safety elements and the ingredients as well as scents, colours and designs, before you get stuck in and make your own soap to take home with you.
This workshop is open to anyone over the age of 12, though 12 - 16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.
No experience neccessary. We will provide all the materials, but if you happen to have any of the following at home, please do bring them along:
- rubber gloves
- safety glasses
- a stick blender (it cleans up just fine afterwards)
- a towel and an old shoebox (or similar) to securely take your soap home in (this one would be particularly helpful if you can bring them!)
Transition Dundee is all about encouraging our community to reduce their environmental footprint so we do encourage participants to arrive by foot or bus where possible, if you need to drive there is paid car parking close by at Yeamans Shore or Greenmarket Car Parks.
Don't miss this informative and useful workshop - we look forward to seeing you!
